Why Countorra exists.
Important financial and tax tools should be accessible to everyone. Money and taxes affect everyday life, yet the tools for them are often confusing, fragmented or harder to use than they need to be. Countorra was created to make these tasks more accessible, understandable and useful.

What we saw.
Most people's financial records are scattered: a few bank apps, a folder of receipts, a tax form that arrives once a year, and a vague sense of where the money went. The tools that exist tend to be built for accountants, or they are built to sell something, or they ask for trust they have not earned.
At the same time, the questions people actually have are simple. Where did most of my money go this month? What do these receipts add up to? What will my tax year look like? Those questions have exact answers, sitting in records people already own. What was missing was a way to keep those records properly and ask them plainly.
So Countorra keeps the records first, and only then answers from them. Totals are computed on the server in exact cents. The assistant reads the records and explains them; it never does the arithmetic and never invents a figure. Anything it would change is a proposal until you confirm it.
What financial tools should feel like.
- Accessible
- Useful help with money and tax should not depend on being able to afford an hour of a professional's time. The basics, kept well, should be within reach of anyone.
- Simple
- Simplicity is not having less. It is having what matters close at hand, explained in words a tired person understands on the first read.
- Trustworthy
- A financial tool should never flatter you. Negative balances stay negative, an estimate is called an estimate, and a figure always says where it came from.
- Private
- Your records are yours. Each workspace is isolated at the database, documents are stored privately, and nothing changes without your confirmation.
- Understandable
- The point is not a verdict. It is that you understand your own finances a little better each month, and arrive at tax season already knowing what is there.
What Countorra is, and is not.
Countorra is a place to keep your accounts, transactions, documents and tax year, and an assistant that answers questions about them from your own records. It is built for people who want to understand their own money, including people who work for themselves and whose personal and working finances meet in the same ledger.
It is not a tax filer. Countorra prepares your tax information and shows what the supported federal and state rules produce from it, and it says plainly which rules it used and whether a result is final. It does not submit anything to any tax authority, and it is not a substitute for professional advice where your situation calls for it.
It is not a bank, and it never sees your bank password. Connections go through Plaid, with your permission and with two-step verification on your account. It is not a place for anyone else's data: each workspace is isolated at the database, and your documents are never publicly reachable. Read how Countorra protects your data.
