How it works.

  1. Step 1

    Confirm who pays you

Tax Alarm finds the paychecks and side income in your bank deposits and asks once what each payer is. Only what you confirm counts.

  2. Step 2

    Add one paystub

Your bank only sees pay after tax. One paystub gives your salary and the tax already taken out; upload it to Documents or type in the figures.

  3. Step 3

    See April now

It projects your income to December 31, calculates the tax with the same rules as Your taxes, and sets what's withheld against it.

  4. Step 4

    Get one fix

Heading for a bill, you get one action with an exact amount: extra withholding on line 4(c) of your W-4, or a sum to set aside each month until April.

How the example fix is worked outExample
Federal tax for 2026, calculatedOn $86,225.10 of pay, projected to December 31
−$10,139.52
Withheld this year at the current rate12 paychecks so far, 14 to come
+$8,299.72
You'll owe in April
$1,839.80
Extra on line 4(c) of your W-4$1,839.80 ÷ 14 paychecks, rounded up to the dollar
$132

At the current rate, $8,299.72 is withheld this year against $10,139.52 of calculated federal tax, so $1,839.80 would be owed in April. Spread over the 14 paychecks left, that's $132 each, rounded up — put it on line 4(c) of your W-4 and April comes out even.

Why it matters.

No surprise in April
You find out in June, while there are paychecks left to fix it, not when you file.
