Tax preparation
Organise a tax year's information and see what the supported tax rules produce from it.
0:000:00
Tax preparation gathers a tax year in one place: the taxpayer and filing status, income, deductions and payments, and dependents. Add wages from a W-2, self-employment profit, withholding and similar figures, then see what the supported rules produce.
Only confirmed figures are used in a calculation. Figures suggested by Ask Countorra or read from a document wait for your review. Countorra records whether a tax ID exists, never the number itself, and it does not decide whether someone qualifies for anything.
Good to know
- Federal results are before tax credits: the Child Tax Credit, the Earned Income Tax Credit and other federal credits are not included, so the real federal tax may be lower. California's exemption credits and Arizona's dependent credit are included; other state credits are not.
- Each result is labelled: Calculated, From state law (a figure worked out from the state's law that nothing official confirms yet), the name of an official method (California's 2026 figure says "FTB 2026 method"), Incomplete, or Not available.
- Wages, self-employment profit, interest, dividends, unemployment, taxable retirement distributions and Social Security benefits are calculated. Capital gains, rental, K-1 and other income are not yet — if you confirm any, the result is marked incomplete and no refund is stated.
- What needs attention lists every blocker with a way to resolve it.
