Using Countorra

Upload a form, check what Countorra read from each box, and confirm it.

Upload PDF, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, TIFF, BMP or HEIC files of up to 20 MB. Documents are stored privately in the workspace. HEIC photos are kept but can't be read — save them as JPEG to have them read.

Countorra works out what each upload is. For a tax form — a W-2, a 1099, a 1098, an SSA-1099 and others — it reads the boxes and shows them to you as "We found your 2026 W-2 from…". Check them, change anything that's off, and choose Confirm (or press ⌘↵, Ctrl+Enter on Windows): the figures go into Tax preparation for that year, each marked with the document it came from.

Nothing read from a document is used until you confirm it. A box that couldn't be read stays empty — Countorra never guesses a value — and a box read unsurely asks you to check it first. If the form doesn't show its tax year, you're asked which year it is.

Two W-2s from two employers add up. Uploading the same form twice is spotted before it's counted twice.

Photos and scanned PDFs are read with text recognition (OCR). A W-2 is also read by a processor built for W-2s, and a receipt or invoice by a reader built for that kind of document, which picks out the merchant, the date and the totals.

To delete a document, open the menu (⋯) on its row and choose Delete; Undo is there for 5 seconds. Deleting is permanent: the stored copy, everything read from it and its match to a transaction are removed, and any figures it put in Tax preparation are withdrawn from it (the history keeps that they were there). Owners, admins and accountants can delete documents.
